The Story So Far (January 19, 2016)

While looking around for stuff on the third leg of that Slovakian/Bohemian/Moravian trio of musical friends from the 1970s, Jitka Zelenková, I came across these three startlingly Western-looking videos from 1977, the first one being a real touch of the song and dance numbers from the classic years of ‘Morecambe and Wise’ – a version of ‘Mame’ (who was the famous guest star who performed that with M&W?) Sadly, it doesn’t appear that her fellow performers on this number had a recording career of their own.

…and ‘Chanson d’Amour’ (well, since all this also reminds me of Karen’s show-womanship on ‘Numéro un’, we’ve got to get a French connection going on!)…

…and to take matters back to the Carene years, here’s a bit of the soft-focus Philly Soul that so influenced the high watermark of the ‘CC’ period – ‘Can’t Give You Anything (But My Love)’…or a Czech version thereof. (which of course connects that with Dollar, they having performed that on ‘Reborn – In The U.S.A.’) One can almost imagine Carene doing a French version of this on a show like ‘Musique and Music’ (that one with the cow and the tractor!) an outfit like that…well, it was 1977!
