Today is the birthday of one of the great Mistresses of Polish Disco Funk, Zdzisława Sośnicka!
As with Valérie Čižmárová towards the end of August last year, it was initially a case, back in late December last year, of a fairly obvious attraction, with the following cover shot (from a disc of 1971 vintage) encountered on YouTube being my first contact with Zdzisława.
Around that time Zdzisława was something of a merchant of the power ballad, as evidenced by the following song, ‘Ze mną bądź’.
However, she later turned up the heat with her Disco Funk-filled album ‘Moja muzyka’, from 1977, with the following (‘Za inny dzien za inna noc’) being the track that really knocked my socks off a matter of a few minutes after encountering the aforementioned photo. This must have been funkier than a lot of material getting played down Studio 54 right then.
Another track off ‘Moja muzyka’, (‘Żyj sobie sam’) shows Zdzisława in action around that time, from the Polish TV show, ‘Dobry wieczór, tu Łodż’ (‘Good Evening, this is Łodż’). That is quite some way to sign off at the end!
