Boldog születésnapot!

We marked the end of Valérie Čižmárová’s incredible run of recordings in 1973 back on the 27th December – ‘Spousta příběhů’ (‘Lots Of Stories’) and ‘Zrzek’ (‘Redhead’). Well, now we can return to the start, since – on 9th January of that year – ‘Tak měj mě rád’ (‘So Just Love Me’) and ‘Mít aero a létat’ (‘To Have A Plane And To Fly’) were recorded, so it’s a ‘Happy Birthday!’ to those two songs.

In the case of the former, the music was by those wonderful tunesmiths, Vítězslav Hádl and Ladislav Pikart and in the case of the latter the music was by the Russian composer, Juri Antonov. In both cases the lyrics were by Petr Markov. Also in both cases the musical accompaniment came from Studiový Orchestr Pavla Vitocha (Czech studio orchestra, led by Pavel Vitoch), with backing vocals coming from Sbor Lubomíra Pánka (The Lubomír Pánek Singers).

I think ‘Tak měj mě rád’ was the perfect ‘kick-off’ for such a notable year in Valinka’s career. There is a real feel of something big starting in the opening bars and in the case of ‘Mít aero a létat’ – a highly danceable example of what I have come to know as ‘Eastern Soul’, with apologies to the somewhat better-known ‘Northern’ variety! – if one takes a look at the lyrics, provided by Karaoketexty.cz (with translation courtesy of IMTranslator) we see that Valinka was about to take the listener on a wild, fantastic journey…and to have them marry her, no less!…just like the wild, fantastic journey that was Valinka’s series of recordings in 1973.

The superbly compelling pic sleeve photo of Valinka in the image associated with the ‘Mít aero a létat’ video was taken by Luboš Svátek.

Mít éro a létat a zákonům tíže se od srdce smát.
Všem výškám se rouhat,
je má tajná touha.
Mít éro a létat a s větrem si hrát.

Have something to fly and the laws of gravity from the heart to laugh.
All the heights, blaspheme,
is my secret desire.
ERO and Have to fly and with the wind play.

Mít éro a létat a koukat jak nízko je Lomnický štít.
Jak náhle je blízká,
má víska i Kréta.
Mít éro a létat a s sebou tě vzít

Have something to fly and to watch how low is the Lomnicky peak.
How suddenly is nearby, as well as Crete village you want.
ERO and Have to fly and take you with me

Nebuď hochu bázlivý,
svěř svou ruku mé dlani.
Dřív než chvíle bláznivý,
překazí nám svítání.

Don’t be timid boy, confess your hand my palm.
Before the moment crazy, they are dawn.

Mít éro a létat nad městem i loukou kde rozkvétá mák.
Nad tečkami stříšek,
bez závratí z výšek.
Mít éro a létat tak hojně jak pták.

Have something to fly over the city and the meadow where poppies bloom.
Above the dots, pots, without dizziness from the heights.
Have something and fly as frequently as a bird.

Mít aero a létat a koukat jak nízko je Lomnický štít.
Jak náhle je blízká,
má víska i Kréta.
Mít aero a létat a s sebou tě vzít.

Have the aero and fly and watch how low is the Lomnicky peak.
How suddenly is nearby, as well as Crete village you want.
Have aero and fly with you and marry you.

Nebuď hochu bázlivý,
svěř svou ruku mé dlani.
Dřív než chvíle bláznivý,
překazí nám svítání.

Don’t be timid boy, confess your hand my palm.
Before the moment crazy, they are dawn.
