An important missed birthday this year

On 31st December last year I made up for the fact that a ‘Girls Of The Golden East’ birthday on a whole decade had been missed earlier that year, in that case, Jana Matysová’s seventieth birthday. The 31st December this year appears to be a repetition thereof as, on 9th July this year, the Romanian singer/composer/lyricist/actress, Margareta Pâslaru – alternately rendered as Pîslaru – celebrated her eightieth birthday. I know of a particularly impressive demonstration of her multi-talented nature that itself celebrated a ‘Golden Anniversary’ this year, the performance, by Margareta, of the song ‘Timpul’ (‘Time’), for which she had composed both music and lyrics. In parts, there is definitely something of the ‘Eastern Soul’ about it – Northern Soul-like music entirely composed in the former Soviet Bloc – which is why I rate it so highly.

Like Valérie Čižmárová, whose Fan Blog, ‘Bananas For Breakfast’ I also run, I am especially taken by Margareta’s utterly beautiful eyes, as can be seen in quite a few images of her in the ‘Exotic Seventies Songbirds’ Flickr Group, which I founded earlier this year and will be celebrating its first birthday on 24th January.

So, it’s ‘An nou fericit’ (‘Happy New Year’) to all ‘Girls Of The Golden East’ Blog readers/followers and a much-belated ‘La mulţi ani’ to Margareta!
